Fusing Fun With Food And Fitness

What do you get when you combine yoghurt, The Healthy Cook and fitness? A fun-filled afternoon packed with delicious tastes.

I’m always up for trying new things, particularly when it comes to health, nutrition and/or fitness. So when I was invited to attend a Danone event that incorporate food, fitness and fun, I wasn’t going to turn the offer down. The event was held at Barre Body in Bondi Junction. It was to launch a new range of yoghurt called Activia Fusion. Not only did we get to taste the product, we got to enjoy a 30-minute Barre Body class and enjoy quick and tasty recipes developed by Dan Churchill, aka The Healthy Cook, using Activia Fusions. Talk about the perfect definition for fusion.

The Product: Activia Fusion
For those of you who haven’t tried Activia yoghurt, it contains the exclusive Bifidus ActiRegularis probiotics. These healthy bacteria help to improve digestive comfort. The Fusion’s range features two exotic flavour combinations: Lemon and Ginger and Lychee and Pink Grapefruit. the Lemon and Ginger variety with spicy yet light, while the Lychee and Pink Grapefruit was tangy and sweet. I absolutely loved the Lychee and Pink Grapefruit! Both are available exclusively at Coles for $4.49 for a pack of four 125g tubs.

Dan Churchill: The Fusion of Health & Taste

Whoever said healthy food doesn’t taste good hasn’t tried any of Dan Churchill’s recipes! The Healthy Cook whipped some delicious dishes using both varieties of the Activia Fusions yoghurt. Dan added the Lychee and Pink Grapefruit yoghurt variety to his Gluten-free Spiced Granola (check out the recipe on his website) along with some strawberries for a creamy, crunchy and fruity breakfast, dessert or snack. It also makes a great recovery option post-workout.

Dan also whipped up a Raw Zucchini Smoked Salmon Salad using his favourite machine of a spiralizer – it produces vegetable noodles or shoestrings. Using the spiralled zucchini, Dan tossed chopped coriander and parsley, a pinch of sea salt, fresh lemon juice and some Activia Fusions Lemon and Ginger yoghurt. He then dished it up and topped it with smoked salmon for a light and refreshing, easy meal. Head over to Dan’s website for the recipe (although the recipe on the site is made without the Activia Fusions Lemon and Ginger yoghurt, the amounts will still help you create a delicious dish).

Barre Body: Fitness Fusions
The fusion of food and fitness was also on display with the delicious foods mentioned above only enjoyed after a 30-minute Barre Body workout with founder Emma Seibold. Sticking with the “fused” theme, the Barre Body workout fuses yoga and Pilates with ballet barre conditioning to tone your entire body, but in particular waking up those lazy glutes and quads. Ballet and Pilates exercises at the barre and on the mat tone your muscles, while the yoga postures compliment by lengthen and shaping your muscles. That’s why dancers, Pilates instructors and yogis have such amazing bodies! The class was a lot of fun and a great workout.
